From Pain to Purpose: Learn About Devon Graver’s Journey to Healthy Heart LLC

My parents always did the best they could—taking me to doctor’s appointments, specialists, even CAT scans. Each visit left us with more questions than answers. By the time I was a teenager, I had already seen the inside of a hospital countless times. Doctors diagnosed me with gastritis—a condition often caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori. My problem was that every test for the bacteria came back negative. Eventually, the diagnosis shifted to acute gastritis, said to be caused by a weakened stomach lining and stress.

The doctors advised my parents to feed me a bland diet—no acidic foods, no fast food, no junk food. I had no known food allergies, and while that diet helped during flare-ups, it didn’t prevent them.

In college, things got worse. I spent my first year living on cheap fast food, gained 15 pounds, and my health deteriorate. A deep, persistent stomach pain became my daily alarm clock. Eventually, a doctor wound up prescribing me medical marijuana to help with the symptoms. However, I found that it was just addressing the symptoms without solving the root cause of my problems. I was out of balance and desperate to regain control of my health.

One day, I saw a YouTube short about MicroGreens: fast-growing, nutrient-dense plants you could grow from home every few weeks. Some MicroGreens were said to have 20–69 times more vitamins than mature vegetables. I thought to myself, This is it. This is the answer to my health problems. I decided to grow my own and sell the extra.

With little savings, I dove in headfirst. I bought secondhand supplies, found a shelf on Facebook Marketplace, and started growing in my dorm room. After countless YouTube videos and sleepless nights, I finally built my first indoor garden. Sunflower microgreens were my first grow. Germination went well, but by Day 4, mold had taken over. I tried every fix I could find, but it was too late.

Still, I kept going—trying again and again. Every failure taught me something. Bad seed? Switch suppliers. Bad soil? Upgrade to premium. One day everything would look perfect; the next, nearly all trays were dead. But each time, I harvested just enough for myself. My health started to improve.

A business founded out of necessity: Florida International University 2022.

Then came the financial problem: I was running out of money. Just when I questioned how much longer I could keep going, I had one perfect grow—pea shoots. They were fresh and delicious. I took them to class and handed them out, thinking everyone would love them.

I was an overnight success! People lined up from the elevator to my dorm... Just kidding—it was crickets. I quickly realized college students weren’t about to pay for premium microgreens.

Eventually, I moved back home and picked up a part-time job to cut costs. I finished school online, got serious about my health, and lost the excess weight.

Then, on New Year’s Day—over two years after my last grow I got a text from a friend I’ll never forget: “Ever heard of growing greens for money?”

A few weeks later, we renovated his property into our MicroGreens HQ. With a mix of old and new supplies, we hand-built a semi-automated hydroponic system. Nearly finished with my degree in International Business and Marketing, a new idea hit me: What if I could give the MicroGreens away for free?

Which brings us to today.

At Healthy Heart LLC, I partner with local businesses to sponsor portions of each MicroGreen grow. In return, their brand gets featured—and consumers get a healthy, eco-friendly, and completely free container of fresh MicroGreens.

While we currently limit the offer to one container per household, the dream is to one day scale this into a 100% free-to-consumer model—making wellness accessible for everyone, one grow at a time.

The Truth About Your Food

Your Food is a Lie - 50% Less Nutrients in Your Vegetables found in Grocery Stores!

According to the National Library of Medicine, fruits and vegetables today contain 15–50% fewer nutrients than they did just 60 years ago.

Modern agricultural practices — including chemical farming, genetic modification, and high-yield crop breeding — have created a food system that prioritizes shelf life and appearance over nutrient density and flavor.

According to a 2024 peer-reviewed study published in Nutrients, declines over the past 50–70 years include:

  • Iron: ↓ up to 81% in some vegetables

  • Calcium: ↓ 57% in lemons, 65% in tangerines

  • Vitamin A: ↓ up to 67% in greens like collards and parsley

  • Magnesium, Zinc, and Copper: All significantly reduced in most common produce

On top of that, produce in grocery stores is often 1–2 weeks old before you even buy it. During that time, nutrient levels degrade further — some water-soluble vitamins (like Vitamin C) may lose over 50% of their potency within 7 days of harvest.

The Alarming Decline of Nutrition in Our Food 🥬
What Are Microgreens? 🌱

Microgreens are young, edible vegetables that are harvested shortly after they start growing—usually within 7 to 14 days of sprouting. They're basically the baby versions of vegetables and herbs like broccoli, kale, radish, sunflower, and pea shoots.

Even though they're small, microgreens are nutrient-dense, meaning they can contain up to 69 times more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than their fully grown counterparts. They're known for their fresh flavor, vibrant colors, and health benefits.

You can use microgreens to top salads, sandwiches, soups, smoothies, or eat them on their own as a healthy snack. They're grown either in soil or with hydroponics and harvested at their peak freshness.

In short: microgreens are tiny plants with big nutrition and big flavor—perfect for adding a fresh, healthy boost to any meal.

More About MicroGreens

At Healthy Heart, we believe the answer is simple: grow local, grow fresh, and grow clean.

Our microgreens are harvested at peak nutritional density and delivered directly to our community — no warehouses, no chemical preservatives, no compromises.

In comparison to the vegetables found in your favorite grocery store, it is safe to say our MicroGreens can contain over 100 times more vitamins and nutrients.

We acknowledge the price of MicroGreens can be substantially higher than the price of produce, so we developed a way to allow anyone, regardless of income, to be able to get vital nutrition into their life. We work with advertisers that sponsor our packaging, allowing us to give away free MicroGreens with each harvest. Everybody should have access to these life changing MicroGreens.

Why We Grow MicroGreens 🌱
🥦 MicroGreens > Vegetables

1. Packed With Nutrients
Microgreens contain up to 4 to 40 times more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants compared to mature vegetables. That means you get more nutrition in every bite — especially vitamins like C, E, and K, and compounds that help fight inflammation and protect your cells.

2. They Don’t Waste Nutrients Growing Up
When a vegetable grows, it uses a lot of its stored nutrients and energy to build roots, stems, and leaves. Microgreens are harvested early, while all those good nutrients are still concentrated in the tiny shoots.

3. Lower in Anti-Nutrients
As vegetables mature, they develop compounds called anti-nutrients, which can block your body from absorbing certain minerals. Since microgreens are harvested early, they have fewer anti-nutrients, making their nutrients easier for your body to use.

Founder and C.E.O: Devon Graver

My parents always did the best job that they could: taking me to doctors appointments, specialists, cat-scan's. Each one leaving us without a solid answer. I had seen the inside of a hospital nearly a dozen times before I was a teenager. Most doctors told me that I suffered from a condition known as gastritis. Gastritis being a condition resulting from an infection of a little known bacteria by the name of Helicobacter Pylori. This being said, all tests I had taken had come back negative for this bacteria. Then the doctors had started telling me it was acute gastritis, characterized by a weakened stomach lining, and caused in part by stress.

The doctors advised my parents to feed me bland diet: avoid acidic foods, no fast food, and no junk food. To my knowledge and to the doctors knowledge, I had no food allergies. And while the "bland diet" may have helped while I had flare-ups, it did nothing to prevent the episodes.

Going off to college, I gained 15 pounds my first year eating nothing but cheap fast food. My health had started to seriously deteriorate. A deep aching pain that had served as my alarm clock more often than not, and dulled as the day went by. I had gotten used to ignoring the paid with the help of a medical marijuana card. I had turned to self medicating every day, multiple times a day, to keep living a "normal" life. My life was out of balance, and I desperately needed to regain control.

One day I heard about MicroGreens through a Youtube short. Fast growing, nutrient dense vegetables able to be grown in your own home every 2 weeks with 20-69 times more vitamins. Brilliant I thought, I had found the answer. I was going to grow my own MicroGreens, and sell the excess! I took what little savings I had and immediately threw myself at the wolves. I scoured the internet for second hand supplies. Found an old storage shelf on FaceBook marketplace, and got to work in my own dorm room.

After countless Youtube videos and many tireless nights, I had finally built my own indoor garden. Sunflower microgreens were the first I had ever grown. Germination had gone off without a hitch! By day 3 they were sprouting from their seeds. And then I woke up the next morning to find a certain mold had taken hold. I freaked out... looking up every solution I could find to no avail. By the next day, it was too late.

So I tried again, and again, and again. Getting a step closer to my goal with each goal. Bad seed, no problem, I'll just switch suppliers. Bad soil, easy fix, I'll grab the premium option. Everything would be going good one day, and the next all but 1 tray would be dead. With each grow, I'd manage to save enough for myself, and my health was finally starting to turn around. However, I faced one big issue... Money was looking tight. I didn't know how long I could keep this up.

A business founded out of necessity: Florida International University in 2022.

And then one grow, everything went perfect. They were peas. They were delicious, and fresh. I thought that everybody was going to love them. So I took them to one of my classes, and handed them out.

I was an overnight success! I had people lined up from the elevators to my dorm. Everyone wanted to buy my fresh Micro Greens. Just kidding... it was crickets. I was trying to sell a premium product that broke college students just didn't have the money for.

I ended up having to move back home and work a part time job to save on costs. I chose to finish the rest of my education Online. I started to take my diet and exercise seriously, and lost the excess weight.

Then on New Years Day, over two years after I had grown my last MicroGreen, I had gotten a text from a friend I will never forget. "Ever heard of growing plants for money?"

Fast forward a few weeks, I end up moving into his house and converting the spare bedroom into our headquarters. With a mix of old and new supplies, we hand build a semi-automated hydroponic system. At this point, nearly done with my International Business and marketing degree, I came up with a new idea. What if I were able to give them away for free?

Which brings us to today. I partner with local businesses to sponsor a portion of the MicroGreens with each grow. Brands and local businesses get their name out there, and the consumer gets a completely free and healthy meal in a reusable eco-friendly container.

While I have to limit the offer to one free container per household, the idea is to one day have a completely free to the consumer business model.
